The Citizen Rising Woman initiative lands in Zanzibar

Dar es Salaam. Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL), through its flagship business newspaper, The Citizen, is officially launching the Zanzibar edition of The Citizen Rising Woman Initiative (RWI) today, March 25.

The Chief Secretary of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Zena Ahmed Said, is expected to grace the event at the Madinat Al Bahir Hotel.

RWI is an ongoing initiative that collects stories of influential female leaders and entrepreneurs from the world of business, politics, art, sports, civil society and life.

So far, through the initiative, close to 250 articles have been published.

The acting head of Marketing and Events at MCL, Mr Edson Sosten, says the Zanzibar edition is part of the continuation of the company’s slogan, Empowering the Nation.

“The company has already introduced a daily special page for Zanzibar in the Mwananchi newspaper. We also went ahead and comprehensively covered the three years of President Hussein Mwinyi in power, as well as the 60th anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution. Now, we are on the RWI platform,” said Sosten.

According to Mr Sosten, panellists in the event will include the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Zanzibar Presidential Delivery Bureau, Dr Josephine Kimaro; the Chief Executive Officer of the Mwanamke Initiative, Sabra Ali Mohamed; and the Director of the Tanzania Media Women Association Zanzibar (TAMWA Zanzibar), Dr Mzuri Issa Aki.

Others are the Head of the Children’s Development Division and Coordinator of the Generation Equality Forum, Mohamed Jabiri Makame and the Chief Executive Officer of the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation, Fatma Fungo.
