Dar es Salaam. Prime Minister Mr Kassim Majaliwa has said protracted land disputes in Tabora Region should be resolved as a matter of urgency.

Addressing Tabora residents on Saturday, Mr Majaliwa said the Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Mr William Lukuvi, would travel to the region and seek lasting solutions to the disputes.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement yesterday that Mr Majaliwa issued the directive in response to concerns raised by some residents during the rally.

“I have heard your concerns, and I promise you that minister responsible for lands will come here and address them.

“He will work closely with local leaders to study the cause of these disputes and come up with a solution,” Mr Majaliwa said. Most of those who spoke complained about recurrent land disputes pitting pastoralists against small-holder farmers.

In another development, Mr Majaliwa directed that districts in the region build at least one advanced level secondary school in every ward. He also directed education officers to make sure that the new schools get enough teachers.

This, according to Mr Majaliwa, is crucial in ensuring that the enrolment of students and quality of education provided in public schools are improved.

He also warned that stern measures would be taken against parents and other culprits in the event girls leave school to be married off or because of pregnancy.

The Prime Minister was on the final day of his six-day tour of the region.

During the visit, Mr Majaliwa inspected development projects and addressed residents of Tabora Municipality and Igunga and Nzega districts.
