Dar es Salaam. A private company is mulling over establishment of industrial parks, which will house over 450 furniture factories across the country.
Edosam Hardware Ltd will have built the parks in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Mwanza by the year 2025, its managing director, Mr Edward Maduhu, said yesterday.
A total of $70 million (about Sh160 billion) will be injected into the projects, complete with 200 different furniture shops, he told The Citizen at the ongoing 42nd Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF)
“More than 50,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities will be created during and after the construction. This is a continuation of our projects that intend to add value to the forest yields and encourage communities to plant trees,” he said.
Mr Maduhu said currently the company is in talks with the Dar es Salaam regional officials so that they can help allocate the area for the industrial park, adding that everything is going according to plan.
Mr Maduhu expounded that they plan to set up 300 industries in Dar es Salaam, 100 in Dodoma and 100 in Mwanza, stressing that negotiations with relevant authorities in the two regions were underway.
Furthermore, the industrial parks will give an opportunity for customers from various countries to visit and purchase furniture of their choices under one roof.
“We want this industrial park to look like the Foshan International Furniture Market in China. This will make it easy for customers because they will save money and time looking for furniture products,” he said.
For his part, the National Development Corporation (NDC) Investment Manager, Mr Saidi Tunda, said the company is working together with the corporation in ensuring that the country achieves the industrial economy status.
He said the corporation will also help the private sector on how they can establish the industries.
This year fair has attracted more than 2,900 local exhibitors and others from 33 foreign countries.
