Woman allegedly hits co-wife to death in crime of passion

Kagera Region Police Commander, Mr Agustino Olomi confirmed the incidents to MCL Digital, adding that police have launched an investigation into the deaths.


Ngara. Two people have died here on different occasions, including a woman from Nyabihanga village who was allegedly killed by another woman because of passion.

In one of the incidents, Ms Jenine Erick (32) was allegedly hit in the head to death by her husband's second wife, Ms Beatha Erick (27).  Both women are said to be wives to Mr Erick Petro.

Nyabihanga village Chairman, Mr Awali Eradius Batakanwa said the conflict among the women began during a party that was going on in the neighborhood.

Mr Batakanwa said during the conflict, the killer took a machete and a hoe and started beating the woman who was carrying a child in her back. It was dark and noisy with loud music at the party, said the village chairman and most people at the party were drunk so no one came to the rescue of the woman during the fight.

“Perhaps people thought she was drunk. She fell with a child on her back,’’ he narrated to MCL Digital.

The child was rushed to Bukiriro Health Centre while the alleged culprit has been taken to a police station in Ngara Town, he said.

In another incident, a man, only identified as William (56), a resident of Kabaheshi village in Kasulo ward, Nagara District, was allegedly killed by his children following land inheritance conflict.

Kabaheshi village chairman, Yusufu Katula, said the deceased married a woman who had come to his family with children from elsewhere. He said the children had been demanding inheritance of the land from the deceased.

He warned youth against taking the law in their hands.

Mr Olomi said the alleged culprits have been arrested and would they would be charged according to the laws of the land. This comes after residents dragged them to the law enforcers.

“There has been a string of incidents where people are killed here in Ngara, culprits have always been taken to police and cases filed. Most of the cases revolve around land and love conflicts,’’ said Mr Olomi.
