Another Chadema MP defects to CCM

What you need to know:

  • Mr Kalanga becomes the second legislator to decamp to from Chadema and join CCM in less than a week.

Dar es Salaam. Monduli Member of Parliament Julius Kalanga (Chadema) has defected to the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

Mr Kalanga becomes the second legislator to decamp to from Chadema and join CCM in less than a week.

Late last week, the Ukonga legislator, Mr Mwita Waitara, declared that he was stepping down from his post and joining the ruling CCM.

The immediate former Monduli MP announced his decision on Monday midnight flanked by the CCM Secretary for Publicity and Ideology, Mr Humphrey Polepole.

“Being an legislator is not a big deal for me; what matters for me is Monduli development…I want to see Monduli moving from where we are to the next level of development. I am ready to be a mere farmer if need be,” said Mr Kalanga.

For his part, Mr Polepole said he would submit Mr Kalanga’s application to join the ruling party later.

Mr Kalanga’s meeting with Mr Polepole was aired live through the latter’s social media accounts.
