Institutions awarded for empowering the people

Dodoma. The National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) has awarded gold and silver trophies to successful institutions that emerged as winners in empowering ordinary people economically.

The Executive Secretary of the Council, Ms Beng’i Issa, said the prizes were awarded to various groups after meeting criteria. They include regions, ministries, government departments, private sector, provident funds group, among others.

“These gold and silver trophies are awarded to recognise contribution to the process of empowering citizens so that others can emulate and emerge winners as well. This will help make it easier to meet the nation’s industrial ambitions,” said Ms. Issa. In ministries and departments category, winners were the Tanzania Road Agency (Tanroads), ministry of Agriculture and ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism in respective order.

Katavi region emerged the winner in the regions category followed by Kigoma and Coast region.

While in provident and empowerment funds, Private Agriculture Sector Support (Pass) took the top trophy followed by Tanzania Forest Fund (TAFF) and Presidential Trust Fund (PTF).

Winners of entrepreneurship were Namburi Agricultural Company LTD (Naco) followed by Ibra Contractors LTD and Must Lead LTD.

In the private sector, Coca-Cola Kwanza Ltd scooped the award followed by Acacia and Mbeya Cement.

Uongozi Institute, Financial Sector Deeping Trust (FSDT) and CDM-Smith USAID emerged as winners of support providers.

The managing director of PASS, Mr Nicomed Bohay, said his fund supports the private sector in agricultural activities such as farming, agriculture processing and fishing.
