Magufuli picks new TRA boss

President John Magufuli

What you need to know:

  • He is succeeding Mr Alphayo Kidata who was sworn in on Friday as the new State House Permanent Secretary.

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli yesterday appointed Mr Charles Kichere the new Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).

He is succeeding Mr Alphayo Kidata who was sworn in on Friday as the new State House Permanent Secretary.

Mr Kidata steered TRA since December, 2015 after taking over from Dr Philip Mpango, who served in the office for only a month before he was appointed Finance and Planning minister. Before yesterday’s appointment, Mr Kichere was TRA’s deputy commissioner general since November last year.

Mr Kichere formerly worked as the Tanzania Roads Agency (Tanroads) head of finance and chief accountant. Following this appointment, the TRA deputy commissioner remains vacant and would be filled at a later date, according to a State House press statement.
