Magufuli sacks Kahama district commissioner

What you need to know:

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli has sacked Kahama District Commissioner Fadhili Nkurlu hours after Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa expressed his dissatisfaction with working relations among government officials in the district.

Mr Majaliwa, who was on a five-day visit to Shinyanga, said yesterday that the district commissioner and the district executive director were not in good terms and the same was the case with heads of department and their assistants.

“Such conflicts are caused by the fact that you civil servants have entered into business and therefore you take sides. The government cannot tolerate this at all. You must know that you are public leaders and therefore must observe the leadership ethics in your duties. We don’t want to see government officials being the source of conflicts and other problems in Kahama,” said Mr Majaliwa when he spoke with leaders and civil servants from Ushetu, Msalala and Kahama.

“You must change immediately. You are working hard but everyone is in their own direction,” he added.

Later yesterday, State House issued a statement stating that Mr Nkurlu’s appointment had been revoked effective yesterday. No reason was given for the decision. President Magufuli appointed Mr Anamringi Macha as Mr Nkurlu’s replacement.
