Magufuli swears in new ministers, deputies

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli sworn in new cabinet ministers and their deputies on Monday October 9.

The ceremony, which was held at the State House, was attended by Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, Speaker of the National Assembly Job Ndugai, Chief Secretary John Kijazi and other government officials.

On Saturday last week, President Magufuli made a minor cabinet reshuffle whereby the number of ministers was increased from 19 to 21 after he split the Energy and Minerals Ministry into two ministries – the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Minerals - and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries into the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.

Speaking during the event, Speaker of the National Assembly Job Ndugai has told the new cabinet that had been sworn in on Monday October 9 to prepare themselves in the next parliament sitting.

However, he welcomed newly appointed Clerk of the National Assembly Stephen Kagaigai and thanked the outgoing Clerk, Dr Thomas Kashilila, saying he will be remembered.

“I congratulate MPs, who have been appointed by President Magufuli to serve members of the public. I ask you to prepare yourselves for the next parliament sitting because it will be hot,” he said.

He added: “The new ministers are going to strengthen the cabinet and this has never happened for the ministers to sworn in and start working immediately after the event.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Justice, Prof Ibrahim Hamisi Juma, asked the new ministers to fulfill their oaths and abide by the Constitution and laws of the land.

The following are the new ministers and their deputies: Minister of State in the President’s Office (Public Service and Good Governance) – Mr George Huruma Mkuchika, Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) – Mr Seleman Said Jafo, Minister of Agriculture - Dr Charles John Tizeba, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries – Mr Luhaga Joelson Mpina, Minister of Energy - Dr Medard Matogolo Kalemani, Minister of Minerals – Ms Angellah Mbelwa Kairuki, Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism - Dr Hamis Andrea Kigwangalla and Minister of Water and Irrigation – Mr Isack Aloyce Kamwelwe.

Deputy ministers: Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) - Mr Josephat Sinkamba Kandege, Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government) - Mr Joseph George Kakunda, Deputy Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office (Union Affairs and Environment) - Mr Kangi Alphaxard Lugola, Deputy Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Responsible for the Disabled) – Ms Stella Ikupa Alex, Deputy Minister of Agriculture - Dr Mary Machuche Mwanjelwa, Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries – Mr Abdallah Hamis Ulega.
