Magufuli sworn in as Tanzania’s 5th president

Dar es Salaam. President elect John Magufuli has been sworn into Tanzania’s fifth government to much jubilation today.
The new president expressed that he was aware what the assignment has in store for him and will work hard at implementing the pledges he made during his campaign.

During the ceremony, he pledged to work hard so as to meet people’s expectations after they put their faith in him and added that the election process is now over and that people should unite to build the nation.
“Tanzania is a larger entity than any individual’s desire. Candidates who competed during the election process should unite with me in building this nation as the elections are over. No desire will exceed the size of our country,” said the president in his first and short speech to the nation.
Magufuli and vice president, Samia Suluhu Hassan took their oaths in front of Chief Justice (CJ), Mohamed Othman Chande who led a panel of judges following their victory in the October 25, general elections.
The fifth term president has taken an oath to protect the country’s constitution, serving Tanzanians with great integrity, efforts, knowledge without any sort of discrimination.
The swearing was followed by honorary greeting with the firing of 21 rounds firearms from the Defense and Security Forces, inspected the parade with an Omega symbol signifying the begin of new government.
Later on, the national flag was raised and the national anthem sang.
The event, attended by eight African heads of states, delegates of various personalities from all over the world saw Defense and Security Forces pay an official farewell to Retired President, Jakaya Kikwete by firing 21 rounds of firearms.
He then inspected the parade which acquired the omega symbol meaning an end to the fourth phase government under the leadership of Mr Kikwete.
