Dodoma. Regional and district commissioners have no powers of sacking civil servants, the minister of State in the President's Office (Public Service and Good Governance), Mr George Mkuchika, told Parliament.

He was responding to a supplementary question by Rombo MP Joseph Selasini (Chadema) here on Monday, June 18, 2018.

He insisted that only recruitment authorities had powers to hire and fire and that should be done lawfully.

In his question, Mr Selasini sought to know how the government was helping public servants fired or demoted by RCs and DCs.

“Public servants will be sacked by recruiting authorities after observing appropriate procedures. A person who has lost his job following decisions made by the RC or the DC should report the issue to my office. I will work on such matters,” he said.

In her basic question, Special Seats legislator Ruth Mollel (Chadema) wanted to know what measures had been taken by the government against unethical executives.

“How can we build a strong economy without a strong public service that abides by laws, regulations and procedures?”

Mr Mkuchika said the country was governed in accordance with the laws and regulations, noting that violators were doing so individually and not the government plan.

He said the government had been running capacity building training programmes to enable its executives to discharge their duties efficiently.
