Dar es Salaam. Three Mainland Premier League matches, including those involving the country’s soccer giants, Simba and Young Africans, have been rescheduled.

A match between Simba and Lipuli, earlier slated for September 1 at the National Stadium, will now take place on September 2 at Uhuru venue.

The new development stems from the fact that the National Stadium will remain closed from August 22 to September 1 for special activities, according to Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB).

The TPLB executive director, Boniface Wambura, revealed yesterday that a match between Yanga and Mtibwa Sugar will now take place on August 23 at Uhuru Stadium instead the Jamhuri venue in Morogoro.

“We have rescheduled matches that were to take place in the opening week of the Premier League season,” Wambura said.

Also affected in an encounter between Simba and Prisons, will now take place on August 22 at the Uhuru Stadium. It was to take place at the National Stadium.

Simba, who battled Ghana’s Asante Kotoko to a one-all draw in a friendly match last week, are now busy, honing their skills ahead of the Community Shield match against Mtibwa.

The Community Shield match traditionally marks the start of a new season.

The Msimbazi Reds have significantly bolstered their squad ahead of the 2018/19 Mainland Premier League season.

Meanwhile, Serengeti Boys coach, Oscar Mirambo, has warned Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers – East and Central Africa zone - rivals that his boys are still well below their peak despite launching their campaign in the tournament on a sound note.

Mirambo guided the national Under-17 team to a 2-1 win over Burundi in their opening match at the National Stadium last week.

“We have had enough time to prepare for this tournament and hopefully we leave our mark in the championship,” he said.

“Now we focus on Sudan,” he added.

His optimism stems from the fact that four months ago, he guided the youth team to the Cecafa Under-17 Challenge Cup triumph in Bujumbura, Burundi.

His boys will swing back into action tomorrow for their second amtch against Sudan.
