Three villages in Uyui District, Tabora Region, are among 15 others under the Millennium Villages Project, set to benefit from the supply of clean water by September this year. This was revealed by the project water coordinator, Mr Leonard Msenyele, during a tour of one of the main project sponsors, Mr John Legend, at Ilolangulu ward in Uyui District. He named the villages as Ilolangulu, Ngokolo and Mpenge with a total population of about 6,000 people who face an acute water shortage. Mr Msenyele showed the visiting sponsor a 90,000-litre water storage tank whose construction is expected to be completed in September and rehabilitation of another tank capable of storing 45,000 litres is well underway. The two tanks would together store 120,000 per day. He told Mr Legend that the amount of water will meet the demand of people in the three villages who require about 120,000 litres per day. He said on completion the project will benefit households in the villages, a secondary school, dispensary and livestock. Mr Msenyele said construction of the water tank and the laying of distribution pipes to more than 20 water points in the villages was going on well. Addressing the villagers, Mr Legend said he has raised the donated funds through music concerts he organised back home. He intends to use the money to help the needy. Mr Legend was among performers at the opening of World Cup championships in South Africa early this month, last year donated more than $1.5 million to development projects.
