Shein seventh Zanzibar President, Seif concedes results |

The Chairman of the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC), Mr Khatib Mwinyichande, has declared the Zanzibar presidential candidate on a Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) ticket, Dr Ali Mohamed Shein, seventh Zanzibar President after defeating seven candidates in the over a month-long presidential race. Dr Shein scooped 179,809 votes, equivalent to 50.1 per cent, edging his close rival on the Civic United Front (CUF) ticket, Mr Seif Shariff Hamad, who garnered 176,338 votes, equivalent to 49 per cent of over 400,000 votes cast. ============================
Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) is leading in the provisional presidential results which was released by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) yesterday.
Results from 14 constituencies show that CCM is leading in nine constituencies, followed by Civic United Front (CUF) which has taken command of four constituencies with Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) emerging victorious in only one constituency.
According to NEC, CCM presidential candidate, Mr Jakaya Kikwetwe won in Singida Urban, Babati Urban, Korogwe Urban, Njombe South, Mtwara Urban, Longido, Chilonwa, Mpanda Rural and Siha.
The CUF candidate, Prof Ibrahm Lipumba, who is trying his luck for the fourth time, won in Mgongoni, Micheweni, Konde, and Tumbe constituencies all in Zanzibar while Chadema presisential aspirant, Dr Willibrod Slaa managed a win in Bukoba Urban.

As Mr. Hamad said in his speech of acceptance of Shein's nomination, in these elections there was no a winner and a looser but all the Zanzibaris have won. They have won in ending the unnecessary conflict, they have won in paving the way for future peaceful and fair elections, they have won their attempt of building a prosperous Zanzibar.
