About four out of ten households (45.5 per cent) in Tanzania have access to safe drinking water at sources located than half a kilometre on average.

Overall, however, data from the Integrated Labour Force Survey (ILFS) 2014 indicates that the situation is quite good in urban and rural areas alike. Availability of the important liquid is 76.6 per cent, representing 88.2 per cent in urban and 71.2 per cent in rural areas’

In an ideal situation, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the water source should be within 1,000 meters from the home and collection time should not exceed 30 minutes.
