Knowing the state of traffic during rush hour, I elected to leave my office in Kinondoni a lot ear- lier than would have been scheduled. After being stuck in a traffic jam for more than three hours, I got to the airport, only to dis- cover that I had missed my flight. I was frustrated and very angry at the cause of my delay. VIPs moving around in Dar es Salaam are often the cause of many problems, especially at critical times like at the start and end of the day. On this occasion, many other people were left stranded on the road for over 40 minutes during the evening rush hour so that some VIP could get home early to have his/her cocktail or catch their favourite soap on TV! It is high time these VIPs experienced life as gone through by over 99.9 per cent of the popu- lation. Let them sit it out in a bus or daladala without the comfort of air conditioning. Only when they know what it's like to spend over three hours a day to get to and from work will they start doing something about the pathet- ic state of affairs. Let's stop this privilege and let's see more investment in effective public transport systems. Frustrated Citizen, Dar es Salaam. |
