Last weekend I was at the opening ceremony of the Zanzibar international Film festival which has attracted visitors from almost every corner of the globe. The opening performances by Zanzibar dancing group B6 was breath taking as the lads went through the moves to thrill the guests who included ministers. But even as we enjoyed this plus others from Tausi Women’s group, the last performance from was B6 where they impersonated the late Michael Jackson. This got me thinking, not because of the nostalgia and beauty in the performance, but the fact that hit me most was the fact that it was close to two years since the death of the King of Pop MJ. Indeed, it is two years tomorrow since news broke out that MJ had died at his home. The cause of his death was alleged to have been an overdose of anesthesia from his then physician Dr Conrad Murray. That is quite beside the point, the issue that has continued to enthuse many of us is the posthumous success that he has continued to enjoy which includes the multi-million sales of his rehearsal movie ‘This is it’. Indeed, MJ left a legacy that will take forever to wane. RIP king of Pop |
