Dar es Salaam. It had been the talk of town for weeks but finally last weekend the Wananchi group managed to add Zuku on the list of pay TV providers in Tanzania. Zuku now joins other providers already in the market such as DStv, StarTimes and Easy Tv. Speaking at the launch, the company’s chairman Mr Ali Mufuruki said they were targeting a 250 million population in 10 countries. “All we have done is to make pay TV affordable as we intend to reach audiences that have not been reached before,” he said. When asked whether they were entering a saturated market, the company’s CEO for Africa Richard Bell said he did not consider it that way given the fact that there are very few subscribers on the available networks. “ We are here to bring quality entertainment to families at an affordable cost,” he said. Zuku which has its ground station based in East Africa currently boasts of over 80 channels including some free to air channels in Tanzania such as TBC and ITV. (Paul Owere) |
