Witchcraft in farming futile, asserts Pinda
By The Citizen Reporter

The Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda, has called on Rukwa residents to abandon the superstitious belief that one can transfer crops from one farm to another.

Speaking to residents of Mpui and Miangalua wards in Sumbawanga District, he said it was surprising that in this era of science and technology people have been embracing superstition.

He said the important thing was to practice modern agriculture by planting good seeds, weeding the crops and harvesting them in time.

It is only through this method that one harvest more and not otherwise, he emphasized.

He also advised the residents to maintain their health so that they can be able to attend to their farms and other activities.

"You should stop believing that someone can steal crops and send them to his or her farm miraculously or every person who dies has been bewitched; there is nothing like it in this century," said Mr Pinda.

He emphasized on the need for education which would allow more people to be free from old-fashioned beliefs. He said these have been in the minds of many people for a long time.

"It is very important to abandon these wrong beliefs because there is nothing like superstition. Let us emphasize on education as the only way to broaden our thinking," he said.

In Miangalua ward, Mr Pinda opened the ward secondary school. He agreed to sponsor the only boy from the school, Elias Kalulu, who managed to score division one.

The boy has been selected to pursue Physics, Geography and Mathematics (PGM) at Tosamaganga Secondary School in Iringa Region.

"I have been impressed by this boy… I will pay for his school fees until he finishes Form Six so that he can continue with any course he wishes to pursue," said Mr Pinda.

Earlier, the headmaster of the school, Mr John Malinguma, said it has 342 students and needs more hostels.

The Prime Minister's wife, Mrs Tunu Pinda, contributed Sh5 million to the school. She called on girl students to use most of their time studying and stop thinking about marriage at their tender age.
