Dar firm boosts U-20 tournament

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has received sh. 33.7 million ahead of the Tanzania Mainland under 20 Uhai Cup scheduled to start on November 29 in the city.

The money has been donated by Bakhresa Food donated sh. 23.7 million and John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health donated sh. 10 million respectively.

The Director of Legal Affairs of Bakhresa Food, Thani Christoms said that their firm has donated the amount to support the development of the youth soccer in the country.

Christoms said that youth soccer is the backbone of the nation in the game development and believe the sum of money will get rewards by TFF scouting many players ahead of the national team.

"This is the opportunity of the youth players to show their ability and talent in the game and hence book chance in the national team,"said

Anna McCartney –Melstad, Advocacy Advisor said that they have decided to boost the game to spread their international campaign against Malaria disease.

She said that the tournament will carry massage "United Against Malaria" and all teams will get sports gears such as jerseys and stockings.

"We have decided to use soccer players to promote our message, we are sure that soccer attract many fans and believe the massage will reach our target," said Anna.

TFF Secretary General, Fredrick Mwakalebela thanked the firms for the support and the tournament will end on December 13. The opening match will see JKT Ruvu against Moro United from 8am while the second will see African Lyon playing against Kagera Sugar from 4pm at Karume Memorial Stadium.

Mwakalebela named the goups as Moro United, JKT Ruvu, Kagera Sugar, African Lyon in group A while group “B” are Yanga, Majimaji, Prisons and Azam. Group C are Toto African, Manyema, Simba and Mtibwa.

The winner will get sh. 1.5 million while second and third will be awarded sh. 1 million and sh. 500,000 respectively.

The best player will be awarded sh. 400,000 while best scorer and best goalkeeper will each take home sh. 300,000. Each team will get sh. 500,000 for preparations ahead of the tournament.
