Veteran Kaniki signs for Swedish team
By Majuto Omary

Tanzania's Joseph Kaniki has finally signed a two-year contract with Gefle IF of Sweden for the 2010 Premier Division League.

Ndumbalo Soccer Agency managing director Damas Ndumbalo confirmed yesterday that the former Simba striker passed his trials.

Due to this, Kaniki will join Haruna Moshi who secured the contract recently with the same club.

"The duo flew to Sweden for trials with Gefle earlier this month and both have passed their trials," he said.

Kaniki, who was plying his trades at Rayon Sports of Rwanda, had his contract expired unlike Moshi.

Briefing reporters, Ndumbaro said they had already applied for his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) from Rwanda’s soccer body, Ferwafa.

Commenting on Moshi's transfer, the agent disclosed that they were finalising formal procedures with Simba.

"We are at an advanced stage of talks and hopefully we will agree on his transfer fee," he said.

Simba allowed Moshi to fly out to Sweden only three days before clashing with their archrivals, Young Africans.

Speaking after landing the deal, Moshi thanked the Msimbazi Street club for giving him support in his endeavours to turn professional.

Gefle's coach Urban Hammar said: "Moshi is a clever midfielder, who is very comfortable with the ball and distinct in his passing game."

He added: "The player has great potential and is a really exciting player."

The Swedish club, which is in the Premier Division League, was formed on December 5, 1882.
