Tanzania veteran Jayant Shah was 17th overall as Kenyan speed merchant continued to lead the East African Rally Safari at the start of the yesterday loop.
Shah who is navigated by Lofty Drews had clocked 8 hours, 14 minutes and 38 seconds in Datsun 260Z restricting other 23 drivers to race behind him.
The Arusha-based veteran is only Tanzanian in this year's event following the withdrawal of his team mates Larry Horn and Richard Barbour who have been taking part in the past two events.
Until yesterday carefree Kenyan driver Ian Duncan was still ahead with a slim 20 second lead over defending champion Bjorn Waldegaard in Porsche 911.
Duncan who is navigated by American Iqbal Sagoo spent 6 hours, 38 minutes and 14 seconds while Waldegaard had wasted 6 hours, 38 minutes and 34 seconds.
Great Britain’s Steve Perez was third in Datsun 260z after spending 7 hours, 04 minutes and 38 seconds ahead of a South African Geoff Bell Frenchman Paul Erick who clocked 7 hours, 19 minutes and 38 seconds.
Others in the best ten were Graham Alexander from Australia. Paul Eric Jerry from France and Kenyan Jonathan Savage.
Also placed in the top ten list were Thomas Flohr(CH), Jean Pierre Mondron(France) and Steve Troman(GB)
