International Circuit Boxing (ICB) flyweight world champion, Mbwana “African Golden Boy” Matumla will now fight for the Unification title against the Ugandan Festus Omondi at the PTA Hall on December 19.
This is the second bout to be combined during the day as Francis Cheka will have to defend his title against World Boxing Commission champion Enrico Areco who is also holding World Boxing Commission (WBC).
Omondi who is living in Japan, currently holds the International Boxing Organization (IBO) flyweight world title, but will be forced to put aside his title while challenging Matumla.
The bout promoter, Ibrahim “Maestro” Masoud said that the two professional boxing bodies have agreed to stage the combined bout during the day. Masoud said the boxer who wins the bout will automatically clinch the both belts.
“We expect very exciting and tough boxing bouts during the day, the two boxers are not ready to lose their belts,” said Masoud.
He said that all preparations for the bout are complete and the boxers are expected to arrive in the country few days before the fight date.
According to Masoud, they bout has been organized purposing to uplift standard of the professional boxers in the country internationally.
All Mbwana and Cheka are in intensive training ahead of the bout. Mbwana is under Habib “Master” Kinyogoli at Simba Sports Club gym in Msimbazi while Cheka is under trainer, Abdallah “Commando” Lilamba in Morogoro.
