Referee Arajiga takes centre stage in historic Yanga-Simba rivalry for fourth time

Dar es Salaam. Referee Ahmed Arajiga, who hails from Manyara Region in Tanzania, is set to play a pivotal role in one of the most crucial football matches in Tanzania’s football history.

On April 20, 2024, the referee will at 5pm officiate the Tanzania Mainland Premier League return leg of bitter rivals, Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba, at the iconic Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The match, steeped in decades of fierce rivalry and fervent passion, promises to be a spectacle for football enthusiasts across the nation and beyond.

Arajiga's involvement in this historic encounter marks his third time to officiate the intense battle between the two football giants in Tanzania.

Records show that it will be the fourth time for Mkono to assist Arajiga in the traditional rivals' matches including two in the Azam Federation Cup and the November 5, 2023 Mainland Tanzania Premier League encounter.

For Mpanga, it will be his second time in a row to assist Arajiga in the "Kariakoo Derbies” after having done so on November 5, 2023.

Two other assistant referees missing the clash are Frank Komba and Ferdinand Chacha, who have been replaced by Mpanga.
