Dar es Salaam. At least 500,000 sportsmen and women are expected to participate in the Twende Olimpiki Paris 2024 Fun Run scheduled to take place on Saturday in Dar es Salaam.

The event has been organized by the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) in collaboration with the Embassy of France and the French School.

Speaking yesterday, TOC Vice President Henry Tandau said the sportsmen and women will take part in five-kilometer and ten-kilometer races starting at 6am from the French School Arthur Rimbaud located along Mawenzi Road to Alliance Francaise at Upanga.

Tandau said preparations are going well, and participation in the event is free. “There is no entrance fee for all participants in both the five and ten-kilometer races. We call on all participants to ensure they arrive at the starting point at 6am for registration and a warm-up before starting. The warm-up will be led by 1980 Moscow Olympic Games medalist Suleiman Nyambui,” said Tandau.

He said the event has been organized to promote the Paris Olympic Games scheduled to start from July 26 to August 11 in Paris, France.

"Our aim is to enhance the excitement surrounding this year's Olympic Games in Paris, and we encourage all registered sports stakeholders to participate in the event," said Tandau.

For his part, France Embassy official Etienne Pellausy said they feel proud to be involved in the event that promotes the multisport event to be staged in France for the third time in history after previously hosting it in 1900 and 1924. Paris becomes the second city, after London (who were the hosts in 1908, 1948, and 2012), to host the Summer Olympics three times. Pellausy said they hope to have an exciting event to involve all sports stakeholders in the country.

“It will be a historic event as all sports stakeholders will join to promote the Paris Olympic Games, which are expected to feature top sportsmen and women vying for top honors,” said Pellausy."
