100 youth preparing for violent acts: RPC

The police force are watching the youth to prevent violence during Election Day and Sunday

Arusha. Regional Police Commander (RPC) Mr Liberatus Sabas has warned youths and other people against conducting violence during the Election Day cautioning them that police will be on a standby.
Speaking to journalists in his office today Mr Sabas said police is aware that there is a group of about 100 youths which are planning conduct violence in order to disrupt order in polling stations.
According to Mr Sabas police in the region are well prepared to deal with those who will try to disrupt peace.
He said police were prepared to face any person who would dare to cause violence in the area.
“I am warning those groups to stop planning anything that could cause violence because they won’t be safe,” he said.
He asked the public cooperate with Police so as to maintain peace and order in the area.
“There is a negative notion in some of the people that Police officers are for attacking people, Police enforce laws whenever they are violated,” said RPC Sabas.
He said all voters will be required to go home after voting and that no one will be allowed to stay within 200,300 or 500 metres after voting.
According to the RPC, only identified officials will be allowed to stay at polling centres and that the rest will be asked to vacate te premise after voting.
“We do not want to see any group after voting, police will not hesitate to take measures against any person who will go against the set procedures,” he said.
