Ikulu refutes report on JK’s salary

The State House

What you need to know:

The newspaper published a recent report released by Africa Review website which revealed the salaries of sitting African Heads of State.

Dar es Salaam. State House has refuted an article published by Mwananchi on Monday that revealed the salary of President Jakaya Kikwete.

In a statement sent to different media outlets, by the Directorate of Presidential Communications, State House said the publication was false, malicious with no grain of truth.

The newspaper published a recent report released by Africa Review website which revealed the salaries of sitting African Heads of State. In the findings, the newspaper reported that Mr Kikwete received $192,000 each year and that each month, the Head of State pocketed $16,000. Yesterday, State House insisted that Mr Kikwete was among the lowest paid Heads of State and that some public servants in the country were being paid more money than him.

However, the Directorate of Presidential Communications did not reveal Mr Kikwete’s salary.

“The salary that is paid to the Head of State does not even come cloes to the amount that was mentioned in the newspaper article,’’ read the statement in part, adding that the publication aimed at creating hatred between citizens and their president.
