Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) is set to train 10 aviation experts to address the shortage challenge by September this year.

TCAA director general Hamza Johari however did not disclose the magnitude of the challenge (shortage) adding that the unspecified money for the purpose would come from the regulator’s Training Fund.

Mr Johari, who was speaking during the National Civil Aviation Forum, said already five experts, including pilots and maintenance engineers, have been trained through the fund.

The forum brought together the industry’s stakeholders to discuss challenges and ways forward on how to take the aviation sector  in Tanzania to the next level.

“Aviation experts are urgently needed to support the fast growing aviation industry. It is our wish that we double the number of trainees to 20 next year,” noted Mr Johari.

The Works, Transport and Communication minister, Mr Isack Kamwelwe, who was the Chief Guest, said the number of pilots and maintenance engineers stood at not more than 349 and 182 respectively.
