Nyama Chuma events are the perfect mix between god food and good entertainment

What you need to know:

For years it has offering scores of people a once in a life time sampling of good meat prepared by the best roasters in town.

Going by the long queues of vehicles stretching all the way to Ali Hassan Mwinyi road, it was undeniable that this event has for the last three years been a bid deal for locals.

For years it has offering scores of people a once in a life time sampling of good meat prepared by the best roasters in town.

Last Saturday, all roads led to Leaders Club for a mouth watering Nyama Choma Festival gig, courtesy Alta Vista Events, with Heineken beer being the proud partner of the event. As early as 2pm revellers were streaming in as the various Nyama choma stalls did brisk business selling food and drinks.

At the stroke of 4pm billows of smoke could be seen hovering over Leaders Club, a clear indication that something was happening at the grounds, punctuated by some good music which was actually a crowd puller. Some parts of Ada Estate in Kinondoni virtually became synonymous to spicy aromas oozing from the roasted meat.

At the main entrance, security was not compromised. Security personnel were at hand to screen each reveller entering the grounds and anyone with a sharp object was not allowed into the grounds.

And as it has always been, this was yet another family affair were kids were seen accompanying their parents for some meat testing. “It is my second time here. I’ve never left my kids at home,” says Edson Kijangwa, from Sinza.

It being a Saturday dominated by big soccer matches at the English Premier League, Heineken’s marquee offered revellers a chance to have a peek of the ongoing soccer matches as they enjoyed their Nyama Choma washing it down with a cold drink.

Just like at a trade fair, anyone on this day was at liberty to go to a stall of their choice to sample the best roasted meat.

“What more can you ask for when there a Nyamachoma plate on your table and plenty of football to watch tonight,” said Julie Kandaya from Mbezi Beach.

Being on its third year, the festival is among the region’s finest and events bringing together meat lovers for an afternoon of fun, music and relaxation.

On this particular day, fans and revellers were treated to a variety of sumptuous flame grilled meats plus electric live band entertainment from Skylight Band, Yamoto band and a line-up of talented entertainers, including DJK3, Mafuvu.

Yamoto band who were the first to take the stage performed an list songs including Niseme, nitakupwelepweta pulled in crowd of loyal supporters especially the young ladies.

But it was up to the Veterans in band music Skylight to entertain the crowd till late with countless renditions from hiphop, old school, taarab to the pleasure of Dar night revellers. It was also a time for catching up for lost buddies and it was evident throughout the event as people shared warm embraces and selfies.

The who-is-who of Tanzania didn’t disappoint, as they were all over to catch up with their die hard fans and followers. Indeed, the revellers had a chance of enjoying world’s most premium beer while they freely mingled and had fun throughout the night.

Ms Catherine Ndossy, one of the event’s organisers expressed her delight on the huge turnout of revellers every time the event takes place.

“It’s amazing how we started and how the event is keeping up with the demand of our fans three years on”, she said.

According to Ms Ndossy, the festival serves as platform for budding meat roasters . “Despite being the time to have fun with friends and family, it is also a chance for meat roasters to showcase their prowess”.

Having been staged in Rwanda and Uganda last year, Ms Ndossy revealed to The Beat that plans were underway of taking the show to Kenya this year.
