Arusha. At a time donors and Western countries are still doubting the fairness of the recent polls in Uganda, an observer team deployed by the East African Community (EAC) has hailed the “orderliness” of the General Election held slightly over two months ago.

Retired President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, who led the 50-person team, said in Dar es Salaam over the weekend when handing over the final observation report to the outgoing EAC secretary general Richard Sezibera that he was happy that the entire process was carried on peacefully.

“I was very happy to observe the patience and orderliness with which the people of Uganda conducted the General Election,” Mzee Mwinyi said.

Dr Sezibera, who was expected to step down late yesterday and hand over to his successor Liberat Mfumukeko from Burundi, lauded the former Union president “for his leadership and commitment to the EAC Elections Observers Mission”.
