Singida. Police in Singida Region have arrested 11 people in connection with the killing of their parents in two separate incidents.

Those arrested include six people, who allegedly killed their father after he married a second wife, according to Singida Regional Police Commander Stella Mutabihirwa.

She said the incident occurred on August 30, 2023, when a 68-year-old man was fatally stabbed. Nine people, including six siblings, were arrested in connection with the killing.

“Nine relatives, including six of the victim’s children, were apparently angered by the old man’s decision to take his second wife, with whom he had two children, to the family home with the aim of introducing her,” Ms Mutabihirwa said.

In the second incident, which occurred on September 9, 2023, in Nkingi Village, Iramba District, a 70-year-old woman was slashed to death by two people suspected to be her own children.

Ms Mutabihirwa said the arrested duo had for a long time suspected their mother of bewitching them.

The police boss said preparations were being made to take all 11 suspects to court.
