Tanzania’s Ramada Resort responds to LGBTQ allegations, denies any wrongdoing

What you need to know:

  • The resort says they strictly adhere to a code of conduct aligned with local and international standards, emphasizing that all their operations are fully compliant with Tanzanian laws and regulations.

Dar es Salaam. Ramada Resort Dar es Salaam has on today, June 4 addressed a recent letter that alleged that the property was sponsoring LGBTQ activities circulating on social media platforms.

The resort says they strictly adhere to a code of conduct aligned with local and international standards, emphasizing that all their operations are fully compliant with Tanzanian laws and regulations.

The clarification comes at a time when authorities, through the Minister for Community Development Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr Dorothy Gwajima, promised to investigate a certain letter from the Pan-Africa ILGA which was reportedly addressed to one of the top officials (Riaan Joshua Thiart) at the resort declaring unwavering support for LGBTQ activities.

“I would like to provide feedback that I have already forwarded the letter to the responsible ministry and investigative authorities (Ministry of Home Affairs) for appropriate action. It should also be noted that the institution accused, as mentioned in the letter, is registered and operates under various ministries including investment, trade, tourism, and foreign affairs, to name a few,” wrote Dr Gwajima.

But in its statement, the resort emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and privacy of all guests, including the mandate for guest registration upon arrival and the requirement of valid identification for all patrons.

The resort expressed concern over a fake letter circulated on social media, falsely connecting the hotel with an LGBTQ community organization.

“The mentioned organization has publicly stated that the letter is fake and not issued by them,” reads the statement.

According to Ramada Resort Dar es Salaam, they have no affiliation with the organization mentioned in the letter and have never accepted financial support from any affinity group.

It added that internal investigations conducted by the resort have preliminarily found the allegations to be false.

Furthermore, the resort stated their cooperation with relevant external forces to ensure the matter is appropriately addressed.

Ramada Resort Dar es Salaam reaffirmed their dedication to providing a welcoming and respectful environment for all guests, in accordance with Tanzanian laws and cultural values.
