Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) and NMB Bank have signed a two-year contract under which any fan or supporter of the club can secure a membership card through the bank’s branches spread across the country.

The agreement was signed yesterday at a brief ceremony held at the NMB Bank headquarters in Dar es Salaam.

The aim of the agreement is to increase the number of the club’s members and fans as well as provide them with financial solutions through their cards, which the bank will start to issue from July 10 of this year onwards.

NMB Bank Chief of Retail Banking Filbert Mponzi and Yanga president Hersi Said represented the two parties at the signing ceremony.

Mponzi said they are well-organized to use their wide network that includes more than 228 branches in the country to register the club’s supporters and fans aged 18 and above.

“This agreement is going to stamp a big mark in the Tanzanian sports industry and change the system as well as financial attitudes for football fans through digital services such as NMB Mkononi that includes cheap loans with no conditions of Mshiko Fasta. We thank Yanga’s leadership for giving us the opportunity to serve the largest group of stakeholders. We urge all the bank’s branches to register the club supporters and provide with their cards from July 10 onwards, and we promise them a great success,” said Mponzi.

However, he clarified that each supporter or fan wanting to become a member of the club will have to pay Sh34,000 as an annual fee and the card payment, while an non-member will pay Sh22,000 for the same.

Additionally, he said the cards will work just like any other cards of the NMB Bank, including making transactions, depositing money, using ATMs, making online payments, and benefiting from various discounts.

For his part, Yanga president Hersi Saidi thanked the bank for agreeing to sign the agreement, which he termed as a solution to the previous system of registering the club supporters through N-Card Company, which was conducting its registration processes at the branches of the club.

“After the change in the operating system, member registration was being done at our branches by N-Card Company, which enabled us to get about 49,000 members.

“However, we encountered the challenge of registering them and the delay of the issuance of the cards after registration.

Let me assure our supporters and fans alike that all the club challenges and other problems are going to be addressed under this agreement with the NMB, Bank through their branches and their agents found all over the country,” he said.
