Tanzania national ladies golf team win ECAACT title for second time

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has retained the East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy (ECAACT) as the 6th edition of the event ended last Friday at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas in Rwanda.

Tanzania grossed 689 strokes to win the overall title for the second time in history.

The country first won the event in 2019 in Uganda. Apart from emerging the overall winners, Tanzania’s top golfer Neema Olomi was ranked second after collecting 230 behind Kenyan Ashley Awuor who won the individual event after recording 229.

The title was in 2019 won by Tanzanian Madina Iddi who was placed third with 230 strokes after countback against Olomi. Other Tanzanian golfers, Vicky Elias and Hawa Wanyeche were placed seventh and eighth respectively after grossing 236 and 239 strokes respectively in the 54-hole strokes play event. The team was under Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) president Queen Siraki and treasurer Joyce Ndyetabura.

On day one, Tanzania recorded 233 before collecting 230 and later 226 strokes to emerge at the top of the table against other six countries.

Kenya was placed second with a total of 696 strokes while Uganda was placed third with 705 strokes and Zambia was fourth with 752 strokes.

Others countries, scores and their positions into brackets are Rwanda (774, 5th), Mauritius (797, 6th) and Burundi that was placed seventh after recording 926 strokes.

"We are very happy to win the trophy again and become dominant in the women’s golf in the region. It was not easy as we faced a strong opposition and missed the individual trophy by one stroke," Iddi said.

Siraki commended the golfers for their outstanding performance in the event. "The golfers deserve praise as they fought hard for their nation. We thank all sponsors, the National Sports Council (NSC), Airpay and stakeholders who made the team feature in the event,” said Siraki.
