Dar es Salaam. Fresh from sealing their place in the CAF Champions’ League group stage, Young Africans (Yanga) return to domestic duty on October 28, 2025 taking on Mtibwa Sugar at the KMC Complex in Mwenge, Dar es Salaam. The match kicks off at 4pm.

The defending champions, who last weekend triumphed 2–1 on aggregate over Silver Strikers of Malawi to reach the group stage, are now shifting focus back to the NBC Premier League.

After playing just two league matches so far, Yanga currently sit 13th in the standings with four points from one win and one draw.

Mtibwa Sugar, on the other hand, have had a relatively stronger start to their campaign.

The Morogoro-based side are placed 9th in the league table with five points from four matches- one win, two draws, and one defeat. They have scored two goals and conceded just one, underlining their defensive discipline.

Given these statistics, today’s encounter is expected to be tightly contested. Yanga, despite their slow league start, remain one of the most formidable teams in Tanzanian football.

Their attention had been heavily focused on continental duties, but with CAF progress secured, they are expected to field a full-strength squad determined to climb up the domestic standings.

The match also presents an opportunity for Yanga’s newly appointed Portuguese head coach, Pedro Gonçalves, to oversee his first league fixture since taking charge.

Gonçalves, who guided Angola to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals, will be eager to make an early mark and bring back the attacking rhythm Yanga are renowned for.

Mtibwa Sugar, however, are not likely to be pushovers. Their solid defensive record makes them one of the toughest sides to break down in the early stages of the season.

Under coach Awadhi Juma, the team has shown discipline and resilience, earning valuable points against experienced opponents.

A victory today would lift Yanga into the top half of the table and restore momentum as they balance local and continental challenges. For Mtibwa, a positive result would reinforce their steady start and build confidence ahead of upcoming fixtures.

With both teams eager to prove a point, fans can expect a high-intensity encounter full of tactical battles, attacking flair, and the determination to climb the NBC Premier League ladder
