The ruling party CCM has said the claims by opposition party ACT-Wazalendo that it will win the 2025 polls are mere wishful thinking, saying CCM’s victory is guaranteed by the party’s vision and its support at the grassroots.

The claims come two days after the opposition party held a youth conference where it instructed its youth to stand up for their rights and to make sure they oust CCM in the 2025 elections.

This was said by the party’s publicity secretary, Zanzibar, Mbeto Khamis, who claimed ACT-Wazalendo does not have the nerve to wrestle CCM from the country’s leadership.

Mbetto said that if opposition leadership under veteran politicians such as Maalim Seif Sharif Hamad, Shaaban Mloo, Ali Haji Pandu, Soud Yusuf Mgeni, and Hamad Rashid Mohamed in the past failed to remove CCM, then Ismail Jussa and his cronies will not change anything.

He said the task of nurturing a political party until it is trusted by the people is not an easy one like taking a cup of tea.

"Jusa and his fellow ACT-Wazalendo leaders are trying to wear robes that don’t fit them." There is no Zanzibari who trusts the party’s hierarchy. There is no Zanzibari who will accept a mortgage on his life," said Mbetto.

According to him, the eighth phase government has so far done a great job, and as a result, the opposition has been left empty with no agenda, which is why they have resorted to politics of distortion and hearsay.

"Our party will continue to fulfill its promises to the people. The people are the ones who give their consent. If the mature politicians who were CCM moved to the opposition and they have still failed to win, I don’t see how Jussa and his cronies can do that," said Mbeto.

He added: President Dr. Hussein Mwinyi will continue to serve the people of Zanzibar until 2030, when his second term ends. Those who think that CCM can be shaken by the opposition’s words should think twice.

Mbetto added that the victory of any political party comes from its support, not from seeking sympathy or claiming that elections have always been rigged.

"Act Wazalendo; first remove the dirt from your house. End your tensions before the immigrants take over your party. Do not ignore those who built that party to where it is. You cannot win when you keep fighting against each other," claimed Mbetto.
