Chinese firm, UDSM to team up on research

Dar es Salaam. A Chinese firm, Moutai Group, and the University of Dar es Salaam will ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday this week that will see the two organizations cooperating in exchange programmes in the area of research on agriculture value chain.
The MoU signing ceremony will held alongside an exhibition that will take place in Dar es Salaam.
Representatives from Moutai Group, which is also the exhibition organizer, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the exhibition will be part of an extension of the celebration of the 55th anniversary of the Tanzania-China diplomatic relations.
A delegation of 60 people from China will participate in the one-day international exhibition to promote business, tourism and culture.
“Tanzania-China strategic partnership in economy, trade and culture continues to deepen across all parameters and the planned exhibition is just a way of showing it,” he said.
Former Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda will grace the exhibition.
The exhibition is dubbed: ‘the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation’.
According to Ms Lu Lu, the MoU to be signed with the UDSM will also involve exchange of research findings and talents in order to improve business, tourism and culture between the two countries.
She said the delegation will meet officials from the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) and discuss ways of exchanging information in order to support the growth of businesses in the two countries.
“We will explore and identify together various business opportunities in the country and link local investors with Chinese counterparts,” he added.
In attendance will be prominent business leaders from Tanzania, cabinet ministers as well top officials from the Chinese government and various foreign ambassadors.
During their stay, the Chinese delegation will also engage in a number of activities, including cultural exchanges. The event comes at a time when China is marking the 6th anniversary of its “Belt and Road” Initiative. With the growing number of model projects of China-Africa cooperation, as an active participant and supporter, Africa has rapidly become a demonstration zone for the “Belt and Road” Initiative.
The Belt and Road Initiative is a development strategy adopted by the Chinese government involving infrastructure development and investments in 152 countries and international organizations in Europe, Asia, Middle East, Latin America and Africa.
