Halotel changes Sim card registration, sales

What you need to know:

These changes are parts of the company’s plans to streamline Sim cards sales and registration process by changing the system that was being used earlier.

Dar es Salaam. Viettel Tanzania PLC, which trades as Halotel, has taken deliberate measures to ensure that its subscriber identification module (Sim) cards are only sold by trusted and well registered dealers.

These changes are parts of the company’s plans to streamline Sim cards sales and registration process by changing the system that was being used earlier.

The company’s head of communications, Mr Mhina Semwenda said they have reduced the number of Sim cards that are in the hands of dealers and that it will only furnish them with additional cards after getting convinced that they running short of new Sim cards and that those given to them have been sold in compliance with the law.

“We have also set ourselves highest compliance levels. We have invested massively in technological devices that will detect and prevent any form of hacking of our telecommunication system. We are doing this in order to prevent unscrupulous people from using our telecommunication infrastructure to undertake any activity that is contrary to laws and regulations governing the telecommunication sector in Tanzania,” he said.

He said Halotel’s operations are in compliance with laws and regulations governing the country’s telecommunication sector.

He said the company has invested massively in Tanzania during the past two years, saying there is no way it could allow any operations that would put the investment at risk.
