Bolt increases fares in Tanzania to improve drivers’ earnings
Dar es Salaam. Ride-hailing app Bolt has announced fare adjustments effective immediately, with prices rising 5 percent in Dar es Salaam and exceeding 10 percent in other Tanzanian cities.
This move aims to cushion drivers from the sting of rising operational costs in the current economic climate.
"Driver well-being is paramount at Bolt," declared Munira Ruhwanya, the company's Operations Manager.
"We know happy drivers translate to satisfied riders, so we've adapted our pricing structure in response to economic challenges. This ensures optimal earnings for our drivers while maintaining Bolt's reputation as an affordable choice for customers."
The adjusted fares cover all categories, from budget-friendly Boda Bodas and Bajajis to sleek Cars and corporate-focused Bolt Corporate rides.
Minimum fares now range from Sh1000 to Sh4000 across categories, with price increases per kilometer also implemented.
This move follows the recent opening of Bolt's Driver Engagement Center in Dar es Salaam, a dedicated space for drivers to address concerns and receive support.
The center, located on 30 Maji Maji Street, operates by appointment, ensuring efficient and personalised assistance.
"Drivers are the heart of our platform," Ruhwanya emphasized. "We're committed to improving their financial well-being, stimulating demand for their services, and providing them with an exceptional overall experience."
While riders might feel a slight pinch in their pockets, the impact on drivers' earnings could be significant.
This fare adjustment signals Bolt's dedication to striking a balance between affordability for customers and a sustainable earning potential for its drivers, ultimately ensuring a smooth and positive experience for all stakeholders in the Tanzanian ride-hailing ecosystem.
