  • The recognition comes two months after the bank was named Tanzania’s Best Islamic Bank through its Shariah-compliant arm, CRDB Al Barakah Banking, at the Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards in Dubai

Dar es Salaam. CRDB Bank has been named Tanzania’s Best Bank, Best Bank for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Best Bank for SMEs at the 2025 Euromoney Awards for Excellence held in London on 17 July.

The awards were received by managing director for the CRDB Bank Foundation, Ms Tully Esther Mwambapa, in London, United Kingdom (UK) at a ceremony attended by over 500 banking professionals.

The bank said in a statement in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, July 20, 2025 that Ms Mwambapa was joined by CRDB officials and representatives from the Tanzanian Embassy in the UK.

The recognition comes two months after the bank was named Tanzania’s Best Islamic Bank through its Shariah-compliant arm, CRDB Al Barakah Banking, at the Euromoney Islamic Finance Awards in Dubai.

This recognition coincides with the bank’s 30th anniversary, highlighting its focus on financial inclusion, enterprise growth and regional expansion since 1996.

“This recognition speaks to our mission of being a trusted partner in progress,” said Ms Mwambapa.

“As we mark 30 years, the awards affirm our purpose: to improve livelihoods and deliver impact.”

The Best Bank for ESG award reflects CRDB Bank’s efforts in green finance, governance and inclusion.

It was the first Tanzanian bank to issue a green bond, listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.

It is also the only Tanzanian bank accredited by the Green Climate Fund.

Through its Foundation and Imbeju Programme, the bank supports women- and youth-led businesses.

The Best Bank for SMEs award recognises CRDB’s tailored services to small and medium enterprises, seen as key drivers of Tanzania’s economy.

The Best Bank in Tanzania award acknowledges the bank’s progress in innovation, digital services and regional presence.

“We are grateful for the recognition, but our focus remains on growth and impact,” Ms Mwambapa added.

“These awards reflect the trust of our customers and the commitment of our board, staff and shareholders.”

CRDB Bank recently expanded its footprint to Dubai, reinforcing its position as a growing regional bank.
