  •  This comes after Mara Regional Commissioner Col Evans Mtambi received 605 pieces of furniture meant for primary and secondary schools in Tarime District Council.

Dar es Salaam. Several schools across the Mara Region are reaping the rewards of vibrant social service programmes, crafted to elevate the quality of education and create a more inclusive, welcoming environment for every student.

This comes after Mara Regional Commissioner Col Evans Mtambi received 605 pieces of furniture meant for primary and secondary schools in Tarime District Council.

“I have inspected the furniture and I’m satisfied. It is of high quality and meets the set standards,” he said.

He said this at a handover event, when 310 chairs for primary schools and 295 tables for secondary schools were received, for a total of 605 pieces of the aforementioned furniture.

The furniture comes from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), funds in Barrick North Mara, a joint venture with the government, through Twiga Minerals Corporation.

He commended the mine for implementing the school furniture project, whose total cost is estimated at Sh898 million upon completion.

Students and local community leaders from villages surrounding the mine attended the function.

Earlier this month, Tarime District Commissioner Maj Edward Gowele received the first batch of furniture. Four local contractors are implementing the project, comprising 900 pieces of furniture.

Speaking during the handing over function, North Mara  Gold Mine, General Manager Mr Apolinary Lyambiko said the school furniture is one of the 101 projects lined up for implementation in Tarime District Council at a total cost of Sh9 billion from the company’s CSR Programme.

Tarime Member of Parliament Mwita Waitara applauded Barrick North Mara for the donation, saying the company supports the social and economic development of the constituency.

Mr Waitara reiterated his support for the company, stressing that it is beneficial to the local people and the nation.

“This is an investor who is doing a great job for the people. He has empowered many groups. We have no problem with the company,” he said.
