Dar es Salaam. The National Institute of Transport (NIT) and Simba Supply Chain Solutions (SSCS) have reaffirmed their commitment to working together.
Through a renewed MoU, the organisations will focus on improving efficiency, professional training, and best practices in Tanzania's transport and logistics industry.
The MoU focuses on using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve collaboration between NIT and SSCS. This will involve developing skills in logistics, supply chain management, engineering, and operations for both students and staff.
The two entities' collaborations are in the areas of staff training and fieldwork placement, study visits, and an industrial attachment for NIT staff to SSCS facilities.
Other areas will also include research and consultancy, training of SSCS drivers, capacity building in vehicle maintenance, freight clearing, forwarding, and logistics, as well as supply chain management.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam recently, NIT rector, Dr Prosper Mgaya said the renewed MoU will continue to support staff training and provide internship opportunities for NIT students and lecturers at SSCS.
He added: “After three years of MoU with Simba Supply Chain Solutions, today we have revived again our collaborations that will continue to provide practical training to NIT students, hence enabling them to graduate as competent professionals ready to serve the market.”
“Through the revived agreement, NIT will assist SSCS in the diffusion of communication and employment offers as well as participating in events organised by each one of us addressing professional challenges and designing theoretical and practical solutions,” he added.
SSCS's general manager, Ajuaye Msese, said that the company has a longstanding relationship with NIT.
He emphasised that SSCS has greatly benefited from NIT's programmes by acquiring qualified employees and providing training to executives at all levels.
He commended NIT for its contribution to developing a skilled workforce in the transportation industry.
Mr Msese said the partnership between the two entities aims to bridge the knowledge gap in the entire value chain in the transport and logistics industry to improve productivity and efficiency, thereby increasing revenues for our institutions and the country as a whole.
“It has come at the right time when the transport and logistics industry is facing modernization challenges. With this deal, our company agreed to provide internships, field attachments, specific modules for visiting professionals, and industrial attachments for staff and students,” Msese concludes.
