Ramani: A Trailblazer of Innovation in Tanzania's Tech Scene

Dar es Salaam. Ramani, a start-up in financial technology, has stated that they are committed to becoming trailblazers in Tanzania and the African tech sector. That was said by Ramani’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Iain Usiri, in a special interview with this newspaper.

Mr. Usiri stated that Ramani's finance technology lies at the heart of their innovation portfolio. He said that the company was created with the customer in mind, providing micro-distributors with an unrivalled operating system that transforms how they run their businesses, manage resources, and achieve success.

He explained that the software-driven automation and digitization approach to operations allows micro-distributors to optimise their supply chains, all through embedded procurement on WhatsApp. With accurate stock tracking and efficient order management, they can reduce waste, minimise stockouts, and enhance customer satisfaction.

He further said that one of the most significant hurdles micro-distributors face is limited access to credit.

“Traditional lending institutions often overlook these small-scale businesses, hindering their potential for growth. Ramani leverages credit scoring technology to provide micro-distributors with access to much-needed credit. Through a user-friendly digital platform, micro-distributors can apply for credit based on their sales and operational data.

Ramani's impact goes beyond empowering businesses in Tanzania. Ramani's acceptance into Y-Combinator, one of the world's most prestigious startup accelerators, marked a significant turning point in its trajectory,” he said.

According to Mr. Usiri, Y-Combinator’s backing is a clear signal to the global investment community of Africa’s potential. It's evidence that Africa's tech scene is growing, filled with opportunities, creativity, and ambition.

“This alignment with such an influential accelerator puts Ramani on the global map and showcases the readiness and relevance of African innovation on the world stage. By embracing technology that's responsive and intelligent, Ramani stands as a symbol of what's possible when innovation meets purpose.

Our contributions to the burgeoning African tech scene, its development of digital operating solutions, and its revolutionary procurement software are milestones in a journey that's just starting to unfold,” he added.
