Esther Simba aka Careen Simba, is probably one of the brightest stars in Tanzania’s Bongo movies whose breakthrough came with her role in ‘Siri ya Moyo.’

The role came after a grueling audition as the producer sought to find a true character that would suit the characterization.

Born 23 years ago in Arusha, Esther’s formative years weren’t very smooth as she would have wished after she failed to complete her O-level education due lack of school fees.

After failing to continue with higher education she decided to travel to Dar es Salaam, after a friend who had been in the city for some time convinced her of the opportunities in commercial capital

When she arrived in Dar her first job was as a food vendor in the neighbourhood where she lived in order to make ends meet plus providing assistance to her relatives back at home.

And like many African families, her parents, too, in the village relied on her for financial support.

After working for a short time, she decided to develop himself academically, where she joined the Amazon College, where she studied a secretarial course, but even there she did not make it to the end and that was when the opportunity for acting came her way.

Rays of hope began to shine her way after she successfully auditioned for ‘Siri ya Moyo’, and as they say the rest is history as this was followed by several roles which thrust her into the limelight in the Tanzanian film industry.

Apart from roles in films, she has since featured in various videos as a model for musicians such as Baraka De Prince, Songa and most recently in one of the most popular television series ‘Pazia’ which is widely viewed across East Africa.

Careen is now a mother of a daughter, her dream is to give her daughter the kind of education that she never got because she believes it is the only way she can face a competitive world that lies ahead.

Her dream is to work with some of Bongo Movies’ stars such as Irene Uwoya and Wema Sepetu because they are names that every aspiring actress looks up to.
