I was recently seated with strangers at a party and found myself engaged in a conversation with a fresh graduate who expressed scepticism about the value of internships.

She wondered if investing time and effort into an unpaid internship during her final year of university was truly worth it.

I mumbled a few positives about how an internship is valuable because of the exposure but failed to come up with a solid response that would persuade her to pursue her internship.
