DHL invests over Sh4 billion in two-year expansion plan

Dar es Salaam. A global logistics firm, DHL Express, has invested at least 1.8 million Euros (about Sh3.9 billion) in Tanzania during the past two years as the firm expands its business in the country.

The money, according to the firm’s Vice President for Sub Saharan Africa, Mr Oliver Facey, went into refurbishment of offices and in purchasing vehicles for cargo distribution purposes.

Some 1.2 million Euros was spent on refurbishment of the DHL head office at the Julius Nyerere International Airport while another 600,000 Euros was spent on purchasing six vehicles for improvement of cargo distribution, he said at the launch of the new vehicle fleet in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday.

“We are expanding our business undertakings every year across Africa. We have been investing more in business improvement annually in Tanzania and other African countries as we strive to make sure that we give improved services to our customers across Africa,” he says. Apart from Tanzania, DHL also has a presence in 220 countries with over 200,000 bound ships operating worldwide.

Recently, the firm also purchased 30 motorbikes for delivering goods to intended recipients on time, according to the DHL country manager Mr Ahmed Abdi.

DHL has been operating in the country since 1989 with high level of business performance beating all players of expedited logistics and mail services, according to him.
