Dar es Salaam. The Permanent Secretary of Tanzania's ministry of Industry and Trade and the current chair of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Dr Hashil Abdallah, stressed the significance of removing barriers, prioritising inclusion and ensuring equity during a recent meeting of the Senior Trade Officers (STO) committee in Durban, South Africa.

Dr Abdallah, who also chairs the STO committee, underlined the principle of justice as crucial for promoting economic growth across all member countries.

He urged delegates to engage in open dialogue and prioritise Africa's collective well-being over individual national interests.

"AfCFTA represents a beacon of hope and opportunity," Dr Abdallah said.

"It aligns us with a shared vision of fostering sustainable development through robust intra-African trade."

He stressed the STO committee's vital role in demonstrating effective AfCFTA implementation through transparent communication and collaborative decision-making.

"Let's engage in insightful discussions with a panoramic view of Africa, transcending our individual borders," he urged.

"Every decision we make can impact the lives of millions. It's our collective responsibility to ensure these impacts are positive, equitable, and sustainable."

Dr Abdallah also noted the conference's focus on resolving tax issues to facilitate smoother business operations across the continent.
