Singida. CCM cadres in Singida region have criticised Chadema’s decision to direct wananchi to read the campaign launch speech of its presidential candidate on the Internet.
They said this denied poor Tanzanians in rural areas the opportunity to know what Mr Edward Lowassa and the party would do for them if elected.
The criticism came barely two days after the opposition coalition Ukawa launched their campaigns at Dar es Salaam’s Jangwani grounds.
Towards the end of the rally, Mr Lowassa, who spoke for only nine minutes, asked people to read the full speech online.
He only gave a summary of what the opposition would do if elected.
CCM cadres led by Ms Assumpta Mshama said Ukawa and Chadema had belittled Tanzanians by telling them to read Lowassa’s speech on the Internet, adding that most Tanzanians were poor and could not afford smart phones or Internet charges. “How many of you here can browse the Internet?” asked Ms Mshama, who was speaking at Makiyungu Village in Singida East Constituency.
Mr Evod Mmanda said putting the speech on the Internet had made it difficult for poor Tanzanians to understand exactly what Ukawa stood for.
“We’ve seen their candidate moving around Dar es Salaam ostensibly visiting poor people, but this is the same person who is telling the same people to visit the party’s website to see what he will do for them,” he said.
