Chadema dominates Karatu poll

The Karatu District Council has been under Chadema since 2000 and has been getting a Chadema MP since 1995 as the first MP of the party was Dr Wilibroad Slaa.
Karatu. Chadema has continued to lead the Karatu District Council after completing 20 years at the helm following yesterday’s victory where they clinched the positions of chairman and deputy chairman.
Announcing the election results, the district administrative secretary, Mr Abasi Kayanda, declared Karatu Urban Ward councillor Jubilate Mnyenye (Chadema) as the chairman of the Karatu District Council.
Mr Kayanda said Mnyenye garnered 15 votes against 6 obtained by Emmanuel Mataw (CCM). He also declared Lazaro Bajuta (Chadema) as the deputy chairman of the council after he scooped 15 votes against 6 won by Mr Lazaro Gege (CCM).
Speaking after his election, Mnyenye expressed hope that within five years he would make Karatu District Council one of the top 10 authorities in terms of development and transparency in the country.
He said that in the short period of his leadership he would ensure that the council cuts costs and stops the misuse of council funds. “We will not spend millions of shillings for the maintenance of vehicles every year. I promise that the council will have its own garage,” Mr Mnyeye said.
He also promised to play a role in improving education and health sectors including district infrastructure by ensuring that all roads were passable all the time and working on land disputes.
