  • The warning was issued by the party’s election and organization director Mr Benson Kigaila, during a press conference held at the party’s headquarters yesterday.

Dar es Salaam. Chadema has warned its cadres, who aspire for various posts at national level, against early campaigns otherwise they will be barred from election slated for September 14.

The warning was issued by the party’s election and organization director Mr Benson Kigaila, during a press conference held at the party’s headquarters yesterday.

Mr Kigaila also said the party has extended the deadline for collecting forms for those who aspire to vie for any leadership position at national level to August 30. The original deadline was set to expire today.

According to Mr Kigaila Chadema’s constitution allows cadres who aspire for election positions to start campaigning a week prior to the election.

“I remind our members who plan to contest in the elections to make sure that they abstain from earlier campaigns otherwise the constitution states clearly that they will lose the right to contest,” said Mr Kigaila.

According to Mr Kigaila the party decided to extend the deadline for its election in order to give time for its cadres who are currently supervising elections at lower levels to collect forms.

“There are those, who are currently involved in the party’s elections at lower levels, who intend to vie for national level election positions so if we go ahead with the original deadline we’ll be robbing them of their primary right to contest at the national level,” said Mr Kigaila.

Speaking about the ongoing elections at zonal, regional and district levels, Mr Kigaila said the elections have been completed for about 80 per cent. According to Mr Kigaila Chadema national elections will be held on September 14 in Dar es Salaam as it was originally planned.
